Solution: Residential & Multi-Family

Recover Ventilation Energy in Existing Apartment Buildings

Skawen Residential helps multi-family buildings recover energy from extract air with a lightweight and modular system developed for renovation conditions. The solution can be configured around the building’s existing ventilation, heating system, roof structure and available space.

Energy Is Often Leaving Through the Ventilation System

The renovation challenge

Many existing apartment buildings use extract ventilation without modern heat recovery. Warm indoor air is removed from the building and its energy is lost.

Adding recovery equipment may be difficult because of:

  • Limited rooftop or technical-room space
  • Restricted access routes and roof-load limitations
  • Existing ductwork and heating systems
  • The need to minimise disruption to residents

Recover and Reuse Energy According to the Building

The solution concept

Skawen Residential recovers energy from extract air and makes it available for reuse in the building’s energy system — as a standalone heat-recovery unit, integrated with an existing heat pump, or as a full Residential configuration with a Skawen R290 heat pump, accumulator tanks and coordinated heating-system control.

Fits the Building’s Existing Energy System

Three integration paths

Existing Geothermal Heat Pump
Recovered extract-air energy may be transferred to the cold side of an existing geothermal system, subject to project-specific assessment.

District Heating
A heat-pump configuration may operate alongside district heating and reduce purchased heat demand, direct or via accumulation.

Direct Electric Heating
A Residential heat-pump and accumulator system may reduce direct electric heating demand where the system allows it.

Developed for Rooftops and Existing Structures

Installation

Lightweight composite construction and sectional delivery can simplify rooftop handling and installation in locations where a complete conventional unit would be difficult to transport. Final roof suitability and structural requirements must always be confirmed for the individual building.

  • Low equipment weight, compact and stackable configuration
  • Pre-assembled modules delivered in sections
  • Lower installation module positioned first, recovery section mounted afterwards
  • Less need to transport a complete unit in one piece
  • Reduced thermal bridging, outdoor-suitable construction

Investment evaluation

Energy recovery, operating savings and payback depend on:

  • Extract-air volume and annual operating hours
  • Existing heating system
  • Heating and electricity prices
  • Required system temperatures
  • Selected Residential configuration
  • Installation and structural work
